THE PURPOSE PRIZE: PROJECT HEALING WATERS FLY FISHING
Client: Encore.org
Production Company: Talking Eyes Media
Role: Editor
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) began serving wounded Iraq and Afghanistan military service members in 2005. Since then, PHWFF has expanded nationwide, establishing its highly successful program in Department of Defense hospitals, Warrior Transition Units and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers across the country.
The Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing program provides basic fly fishing, casting, tying and rod building classes. Clinic participants range from beginners who have never fished before to those with prior experience who must adapt their skills because of their injuries. It's much more than a one-day fishing trip. For many participants, particularly disabled veterans, the camaraderie of the classes is just as important as the fishing outings.
